Using facebook mail to connect with contact

Social networking are taking over our lives in more than one way: finding out about gigs, keep in touch with friends and professional contacts.

That reminds me a few months back I contacted an investor using Facebook. Immediately got a response to “NOT connect via Facebook”

It is almost impossible to resist the temptations of emailing through fb. So why do I still email contacts through facebook ? 5 reasons:

1. A lot of speaking opportunities arise from Facebook (friends of friends getting in touch). If they email on Facebook I have to respond through the system.

2. A lot of my professional contacts are on it. It’s impossible to keep their business cards handy. Facebook hence becomes an obvious choice of communication

3. Having installed facebook application on my iPhone it’s convenient to contact users at anytime.

4. Once in a while work email can be considered as spam although due to facebook’s popularity email systems recognize it and bypass the spam filters.

5. Contacting through facebook is more social / chatty and less formal. My prefered style of communication! Further it is getting more acceptable amongst the business community
