Entrepreneurscan lead us out of recession’ ?

After seeing a big chunk of value being wiped off our economy. Its up to the entrepreneurs, campaigners, financiers to pick up the pieces and create a sustainable economy. Where should we start to empower the leaders of tomorrow with the skills they need? Perhaps, Make Your Mark has an answer.

Make Your Mark Team

Make Your Mark Team

Make Your Mark is a government backed organisation, helping young people to make a difference using entrepreneurship. The organisation runs campaigns, spreading it globally using its fantastic team and more than 600 ambassadors all around the country. The core team consists of 50+ inspiring members, supercharged to make a real difference. As part of the campaign Make Your Mark, Peter Jones (Dragons Den), Birches (Founders of Bebo) and several others are loaning £10 to 20,000 students around the country. The aim is to encourage people to think as an entrepreneur: make a difference, generate revenue etc. For details see Make Your Mark with a Tenner

How does it work

Schools or individuals can apply to Make Your Mark for the scheme. As part of the process each student gets £10. They can by themselves or collaborate with other students to think of an idea. At the end of the campaign the £10 is taken back and the efforts are judged. See how it works (Oli Barrett, Entrepreneur and co-creator of Make Your Mark with a Tenner)

How can I get involved ?

If you are a professional or an entrepreneur you can help your local schools, by acting as a mentor.

If you are a social media person or someone who uses Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and others regularly, inform your contacts about the campaign. Mark your tweets with the tag #mymtenner. Any publicity (how ever tiny) is good for the campaign and remember your support is vital. Given the success of the campaign ( see articles on Telegraph and Guardian) I’m sure this will happen next year. Perhaps ask your local schools to get involved next year ?

What’s the value add

My personal opinion is that the impact will be massive. (For instance) even if a tiny proportion of the participants get inspired and decide to start a business after their education, the campaign has succeeded majorly ! Think if that child turns out to be someone who cures diseases like AIDS or entrpreneur who builds a billion pound company. Or hundreds of them develop their own SMEs / Charities. The economy is back on its feet and boy we cooking with gas !
