Sussex University Alumni Entrepreneurs

Sussex University Entrepreneurs is an exclusive community for Alumni running a business or looking to start one. Our two main objectives are:

  • Support and producing the next generations high growth ventures and entrepreneurs.
  • Network which aims to grow business and add real commercial benefits for members.

Its our pleasure to announce the Sussex University Entrepreneurs advisory board which consists of big players in the industry. The board has expertise in various fields of business including legal, marketing, sales, business development, starting a business and technology. The board members (in order of them joining the board):

    Raj A.

    Raj Anand (Founder of Kwiqq and SUE):  Raj is the winner of Europe’s Young Entrepreneur 2007 by Business Week, finalist of Sussex Entrepreneur of the Year and Courvoisier/ The Observer Future 500 (2008). He worked for the European Union,  Sussex University research lab and various start ups. He won many national awards for projects in computer science, leadership skills and his entrepreneurial ambitions. Raj was the President of the best Society at Sussex University Union and runner up at South East Shell STEP awards.

  • Mike H.

    Mike Herd (Director of Sussex Innovation Centre): Mike is a specialist in Developing new Businesses / Technology & Innovation Commercialisation. He has over 12 years running the very successful Sussex Innovation Centre, a technology business incubator based at the University of Sussex. He is also a mentor and supports a diverse range of high-tech businesses, helping them to raise funds, grow businesses and launch products. He has a particular interest in helping technology / product developers to find ‘customer mentors’ to improve the flow of innovation into the market. He previously worked in the oil industry for 15 years.

    Sarah Ogden (Managing Director at Midnight Communications): Sarah is the MD of the prestigious PR/Marketing firm Midnight communication. Midnight is responsible for PR for several leading organisations including UCL, Oxford Brookes University, Grand design and organising events including Sussex and Surrey Business Awards, Digital Media Awards South (the DIMAs) and several others . Sarah holds a degree in Intellectual History and a Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

    Penina Shepherd (Managing Director of Acumen Business Law): Penina is an experienced Commercial Lawyer and passionate about business. Particularly on how business can make a difference to people’s lives. Acumen Law opened doors in October 2007 and has eight strong experts on board, it won the Best New Business Award in September 08 and in October 08 I was voted a UK Rising Star by the Observer in partnership with Courvoisier® The Future 500.

    Sharon P.

    Sharon Phillips (Regional Development Manager at Sussex University): Sharon is the main contact point for business, public sector and other organisations wishing to engage with the University. She and her team provide specialist advice and access to University expertise and facilities and actively supports and manages client relationships. She also supports University staff in their work with external organisations. In addition to managing several European Interreg programmes, she and her team are also responsible for developing Enterprise and Entrepreneurship activity for students across the University.

  • Sarbjit Bakhshi

    Sarbjit Bakhshi (Head of ICT Sector Group at UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) : Sarbjit is Head of the ICT Team at UKTI which is a Government Agency that helps UK Based companies to trade successfully in international markets and works to attract high quality investment into the UK. Sarbjit has a fantastic professional profile working in various Government Departments including the former DTI and the European Commission.

    This sounds like an interesting organization that would allow small business owners to network and share ideas. They could probably get a better member base if they advertised it more aggressively on sites like Adwido.
