I'm especially struck by how you can think that you've got great technology, only to be very quickly overtaken by someone with deeper pockets or who has expanded more quickly than you - or both. A very familar pattern with lots of businesses, and a difficult one to defend against. The great thing here is recognising the lessons, and being able apply them in future situations. It's also important to think about what was achieved through the story, even if the ending wasn't exactly what you wanted. Especially as this isn't the end of the story, just of one chapter. What a great story to have to tell, and some illuminating lessons for others.
