<p>Impressive how the product placements like Aston Martin/ BMW / Omega Watches in Bond movies, Courvoisier in Busta Rhymes <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAYXRtNxsGA" target="_blank">video</a> and other luxury goods have been replaced by websites and multimedia devices. There is much more to come, I believe in the future we will see a whole heap of social media, gambling and online services sites.</p>
<p>Are we ready for the digital revolution?</p>

<p>Social Media is now genuinely used for brand building. More recognisable organisations are using Twitter, Facebook etc to communicate with their audience.  Recently got hold of an internal meeting presentation (available below) held by a major Canadian Advertising/integrated marketing Agency, BSL.com. In short they are using social media to:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Compete</strong> against rival Advertising Agency, Acart.</li>
<li><strong>Awareness</strong>: Increase internal understanding of Social Media.</li>
<li><strong>Social Media Event</strong>: Start a Social Media related client event.</li>
<li><strong>Grow Business</strong>: Build external awareness of BSL capabilities in Social Media Strategy.</li>
<li><strong>Social Media Case Study:</strong> Work toward a case study that is Marketing Profs worthy.</li>
</ol>
<p>Inorder to really make this work their social media strategy is to:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Use Facebook</strong> page with links to corporate Twitter, RSS etc</li>
<li><strong>Use Twitter:</strong> Directors will have Twitter links on the corporate website. On Twitter directors will have BSL brand.</li>
<li><strong>LinkedIn</strong> <a title="http://www.linkedin.com/companies/banfield-seguin" href="Banfield-Seguin   " target="_blank">company page</a> for BSL.</li>
<li><strong>Blog </strong>serves as a way to provide clients or potential clients with our brand personality and <em>self promotion</em> without a lot of sales messages.</li>
<li>All social media properties like Twitter, Blog, LinkedIn etc should be linked for maximum value.</li>
</ul>

He was telling us about his application <a title="A better version of Google Wave" href="http://www.nurphy.com">Nurphy</a>. At first you might think yet another start-up, although actually it&#8217;s <strong>truly a fantastic app</strong> see what New York Times and Read Write Web <a title="Nurphy" href="http://www.nytimes.com/external/readwriteweb/2009/10/23/23readwriteweb-nurphy-wants-to-replace-email-with-conversa-53011.html" target="_blank">are saying</a>.</p>
<h2><strong>So what does it do? </strong></h2>
<p>The application is puts your conversation in a simple readable format. Let me explain: When you are sending a typical email. You might write multiple questions, the responder then quotes your response and replies. Its messy and fairly time consuming. Another scenario is where you are twittering a question and all your pals reply via @username. If you are smart enough you will be using a tools like Tweetdeck, if so you still need to sieve through each response to see if they are replying to your question or just making a comment.</p>

But has also initiated a heap of unnecessary management phrases which many don&#8217;t understand. The first thing I was taught in business was to KISS (Keep in Simple Stupid).</p>
<p>Unfortunately these phrases have totally confused many (including my mum). Below is a list of them and what they really mean to my mum:</p>

<li><strong>Are you my Twiend? </strong><em>Mum, they are asking if you are their connection on an online service called Twitter</em></li>
<li><strong>Can you provide me some buzz matrix.</strong> <em>Mum, don&#8217;t worry it&#8217;s not worth explaining</em></li>
<li><strong>How do you monetize social media. </strong><em>How do you make money out of online services</em></li>
<li><strong>Can you please RT me.</strong> <em>Can you please rebroadcast my message on an online service called Twitter</em></li>
<li><strong>Can you please tweet me your digits.</strong> <em>Can you please send me your telephone number</em></li>
<li><strong>Let&#8217;s Skype each other tomorrow. </strong> <em>Let&#8217;s have a telephone conversation</em></li>
<li><strong>I&#8217;m a social media expert.</strong> <em>Mum, please ignore! </em></li>
<li><strong>I&#8217;m all about social media and ROI.</strong> <em>They can help your company make a profit online</em></li>

<p>I believe 2009 was the <strong>year of the APIs</strong> (<a title="APIs" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_programming_interface" target="_blank">Application Programming Interface</a>). Whether it is to login using OpenID, Facebook Connect or just to easily uploading videos to YouTube. The obvious advantages are: lower the barrier to entry for niche social network, quickly build content (on your site) and give you access to fantastic online tools.</p>

<p><strong>Why did I produce this:</strong></p>
<p>The list was originally used for <a title="Kwiqq" href="http://www.kwiqq.com" target="_blank">Kwiqq</a>&#8216;s team. So we can actively include these <span class="zem_slink">API</span>&#8216;s for client projects. Although as the list started growing we thought this might be useful for everyone in the community. I want your help to grow this list further. If you find any mistakes leave us a comment and we&#8217;ll correct it.</p>

<li><a title="Vimeo" href="http://vimeo.com" target="_blank">Vimeo</a>: Simple but elegant video player. Has two APIs: <a title="Simple API" href="http://www.vimeo.com/api/docs/simple-api" target="_blank">Simple API</a> (user, video, album etc info) and <a title="Advanced API" href="http://www.vimeo.com/api/docs/advanced-api" target="_blank">Advanced API</a> (User Authentication, upload )</li>
<li><a title="Metacafe" href="http://www.metacafe.com" target="_blank">Metacafe</a>: Metacafe is a popular video social network. <a title="Metacafe API" href="http://help.metacafe.com/?page_id=181" target="_blank">Matecafe APIs</a> are very simple and allow you to recieve RSS, search results and thumbnails from its API.</li>
<li><a title="AOL Video API" href="http://developer.truveo.com/index.php" target="_blank">AOL Video API</a>: are served by AOL&#8217;s acquisition of<a title="AOL Video API" href="http://www.truveo.com/" target="_blank"> truveo</a>. The API certainly gives it an edge over Shutter Stock.  The API is specially designed for resellers or users who want to improve the Fotolia experience.</li>

The API is not very flexible but on the flip side the process of installing the Application Programming Interface is straight forward.</li>

The API is designed to supply user information via SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) over HTTP.</li>
<li><a title="Lingr Google Code" href="http://code.google.com/p/lingr/wiki/API" target="_blank">Lingr</a>: <a title="Open Chat Room Community" href="http://lingr.com">Lingr</a> is a community of Chatrooms (think <a title="IRC" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IRC" target="_blank">IRC</a>). The Lingr API helps people to incorporate the tool into any external software using HTTP requests.</li>

It gives users the ability to access multiple chat clients from one place without the need for desktop software.
